There been some talk about the Darkside magazine which is about to suspend or cease publication, with issue 140 being the last one.
And that they plan on relaunching in a new format like that dreadfully American magazine Fangoria, or coffee book style like GoreZone with lots of big photographs and very little writing. |

| I got a letter about six months ago that said they're temporarily suspending publication till the new year and then they're hoping to relaunch at some point in 2010 with a new format. not so sure what all that means anyhow. |

| I like to buy Video Watchdogs when Forbidden Planet stock them, can't really stand that glossy crap roll GoreZone, or Fangoria which seems to aim for the teens audience with all that Buffy and X-files crap, as i like to read about European horror movies and not all that crappy American teen dribble like hollywood remakes of Prom Night, A nightmare on elm street, Friday the 13th and stuff like that. |

Another magazine called DVD World or DVD & Bluray World which is edited by Allan Bryce is still open, shame really because that magazine really really sucks, it's a bit like Fangoria with pornographic pictures and little in the way of interesting articles, and sometimes reprints articles from the Darkside Magazine and vice versa.

DVD & Blu-Ray World - Issue 79 Out 3rd December 2009
Another month, and another fine issue of DVD & BLU-RAY World, the mag that sets you straight on such important cinematic topics as how Deep Throat isn't a movie about a giraffe. It's hard to believe another year has gone by, but 2009 was a very tough one. every time we thought we were making ends meet, they moved the ends. |

| Did the darkside magazine come back, as i read some place that it was about come back out in December 2010, because in the latest issue of DVD and Blu-Ray World he said that the Darkside magazine would be returning this December from the same publisher ebony / StrayCat Publishing. |

| I used to get the darkside magazine all the time, the first thing i would read was the published letters page, still i will never forgave them for saying that the VHS VIPCO release of Zombie Flesh Eaters was uncut when it was cut by five full minutes. |

All i know is that Allan Bryce said on his Facebook page that he announced The Dark Side magazine is back up and running and will be on sale on a bi-monthly basis from 21st of April 2011, the first issue will dated May/June 2011, i don't know which newsagents will stock the new issues but Forbidden Planet sometimes stock them, and Fenwick's department store.

That was more to do with the way VIPCO adverted Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond, Eaten Alive, Shogun Assassin, The House by the Cemetery, The Burning and The Mutilator as uncut cinema version, but they were cut before they got a cinema release, and the same version were put on out VHS and adverted as UNCUT, the below quote got many people pissed off, after finding all the VHS tapes were CUT.

ADVISORY NOTICE
'Zombie Flesh Eaters' has been listed as a banned video
and been unavailable since 1984. This is the original UK
cinema version and has NOT been further cut by the
British Board of Film Classification for home video use. It
is now passed as suitable for persons over the age of
eighteen. However, some may still consider the content to
be unsuitable viewing material, and find certain scenes to
be disturbing or offensive.
IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT VIEW. VIPCO Ltd. |

This quote is from Allan Bryce's Pornographic magazine DVD & Blu-Ray World website, well it was the last time i picked up a issues in 2001.

"Some good news for those of you who have been asking me via this mag about the fate of The Dark Side, the publication that I have been associated with for over two decades now. We know there's quite a crossover readership between DS and this magazine, and many of our readers are into cult horror, hence our freebie DVD giveaways (which are continuing every third issue). Anyway, I'm pleased to be able to announce that Dark Side will be continuing with a new publisher, the same one as DVD and Blu-ray World. My old partner in the business, Ken Mills, has sadly been in poor health of late and felt that he could not continue publishing at the end of last year.
The new magazine will pretty much be the same as the old one, though maybe a little spiffier on the design front since yours truly won't be doing it himself this time. The first of the new issues should be out by the time you read these words and it has some great features on everything from the new Burke & Hare movie and cult giallo flick Amer to interviews with such genre legends as Gary Sherman (Deathline, Dead And Buried) and Troma king Lloyd Kaufmann. If you can't find it in a shop near you, then you can order a copy via this magazine. I'd like to finish up this editorial by giving another big plug for the Nucleus Films 3-disc Video Nasties documentary.
This has turned out to be one of the best releases of the year, thanks to the feature documentary on it being so excellent, and the intros to all the trailers proving so fun and informative. Best of all are the trailers themselves, many of which show all the gory bits and thus save you sitting through the entire movie! A lot of the trailers are surprisingly long and most are in great shape too. I don't have a vested interest in the product, though you do get to hear some of my bad jokes. If you love nasties though, you'll adore this! " |
If you ask me about the new design, it looks like the low-rent Fangoria magazine, and anyone reading here knows how much i hate Fangoria.
I will be going into town today if my leg holds up, and i will passthrough WH Smiths, Forbidden Planet, Fenwick and Travelling Man comic store and at the same time pick up some Streetpass for my quest still stuck on room 9, and maybe checked out a couple of the small anime stores. |
